Soothing the Shadow
A new approach to recovery
Sobriety and recovery are paths of forgiveness, reclamation, and empowerment. Yet, they are susceptible to self-punishment, shame, guilt, condemnation, or over-identification with our behaviors. This can keep people at the mercy of an authority figure or group outside of themselves and create more shadow than it integrates.
The shadow is all of ourselves that we do not want to face, what we have repressed, denied, turned away from, and abandoned. The parts we judge as bad, wrong, unworthy, shameful, or repulsive. The more we avert our eyes from these parts, the stranger and more self-destructive our behavior can become: projecting these parts onto others, self-sabotage, addictive behaviors, or creating exactly what you wish to avoid. When we find a way to see ourselves fully without judgment, we and the shadow are invited into wholeness.
This is a group for people that wish to face and ultimately befriend and soothe the shadow. To integrate the parts we have disowned and find our way to making healthy choices. It can be difficult to put down old habits without knowing what to pick up. This is a group for exploration and discovery of that. Life is more than subtraction. Finding what is additive is essential.
